Making a difference throughout Jacksonville
On Saturday, February 4, more than 150 Deutsche Bank Jacksonville volunteers joined local women leaders and community members to transform Duval County through a citywide service day called Generation WORKS (Gen WORKS).
For the third consecutive year, Deutsche Bank was the lead sponsor for this event initiated by Generation W, a nonprofit organization focused on educating, inspiring, and connecting women and girls through various programs and initiatives. Gen WORKS harnesses the powerful energy of women’s leadership and inspires others to make a difference in the community. Each year, the event mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to complete 18 different projects throughout Jacksonville.
“Gen WORKS is symbolic of a partnership that has blossomed into a sustainable platform for Deutsche Bank,” said Leslie Slover, Head of Deutsche Bank Jacksonville and Cary. “Our work with Generation W has led to long-standing relationships with worthy schools and organizations that have welcomed us into their cultures. While I know they are grateful for what we contribute, we are also humbled by the many valuable lessons we have learned about the rewards of lending a hand and a voice where needed most in Jacksonville.”
Over the past three years, Deutsche Bank’s partnership with Gen WORKS has helped deepen relationships with local programs including mentoring through MOCA Voice of the People, teaching financial literacy with Junior Achievement and tutoring at YMCA Tiger Academy. As a result of this year’s Gen WORKS day, the bank expanded its work with JASMYN (Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network) to further strengthen their support in the group’s important work in providing an affirming space for LGBTQ youth.
Gen WORKS 2017 began before sunrise at Jacksonville’s Unity Plaza. The Deutsche Bank teams and captains then went to five separate Duval County schools and three community philanthropic organizations to work on various projects including painting, landscaping, making over classrooms, and various organizational projects.
