Award recognizes commitment to hunger relief

The Bank has partnered with Food Bank since 2002, engaging hundreds of employee volunteers in the fight against local hunger and food insecurity. Nearly 150 employees volunteered with the organization in 2016 alone, contributing over 360 hours.

Food Bank For New York City is the city’s major hunger-relief organization, taking a strategic, multifaceted approach that provides meals and builds capacity in the neediest communities, while raising awareness and engagement among all New Yorkers. Through a network of more than 1,000 charities and schools citywide, Food Bank provides food for more than 63 million free meals for New Yorkers in need.

The organization’s income support services, including food stamps (also known as SNAP) and free tax assistance for the working poor, put more than $100 million each year into the pockets of New Yorkers, helping them to afford food and achieve greater dignity and independence. In addition, Food Bank’s nutrition education programs and services empower more than 275,000 children, teens and adults to sustain a healthy diet on a low budget. Nearly one in five New Yorkers relies on Food Bank for food and other resources.

A Deutsche Bank group has volunteered at least monthly at Food Bank’s West Harlem Community Kitchen & Food Pantry since 2011. Employees also volunteer at the organization’s Bronx Distribution Warehouse, at community events and with its volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) program.
