Frieze New York
One of the most anticipated events on the international contemporary art calendar, Frieze brings together cutting-edge art under one spectacular roof for four days.
Now in its fifth edition, Frieze New York has already established itself as a global art destination alongside Frieze London and Frieze Masters. Deutsche Bank has been the lead sponsor of Frieze for over a decade in London, and sponsored its debut in New York in 2012.
This year’s edition of Frieze New York features more than 200 of the world’s most forward-looking contemporary galleries, including 75 based in New York. Two special sections, Frame and Focus, complement the main gallery section and present works by young artists and galleries. Also continuing are the celebrated Frieze Projects, Talks and Sounds programs.
Deutsche Bank is also proud to support the Frieze Education Program, a yearlong intensive for motivated teens from under-resourced high schools throughout New York City. This year, the Frieze Teens attended guided workshops and collaborated with artists and institutions including TJ Wilcox, Jessi Reaves, Dieu Donné, Bridget Donahue Gallery, Materials for the Arts, MoMA PS1, Project Projects and White Columns. They gained professional knowledge of the contemporary art world and received advice on their own creative work. This initiative is part of Deutsche Bank's Born to Be youth engagement program, which works to break down barriers to opportunity and create a strong educational environment for all.
The 2016 fair introduces a new space, the Reading Room which offers visitors the opportunity to browse and purchase a selection of the world’s best art publications and attend a daily schedule of events. The reading room event is free and open to all Frieze visitors. On Friday, May 6 at 2PM Basim Magdy, Deutsche Bank’s 2016 “Artist of the Year” will have a conversation about his work and practice with Omar Kholeif, Manilow Senior Curator from the MCA Chicago. The exhibition titled “The Stars Were Aligned for A Century of New Beginnings” will open on April 29, 2016 at the Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle in Berlin and will travel to the MCA Chicago from December 10, 2016 – March 19, 2017.
Once again the event will take place on Randall’s Island Park, in an innovative, custom-built structure designed to maximize natural light. There will be dedicated ferry and bus services, valet and general parking. Tickets for Frieze New York 2016 are available at FriezeNewYork.com.
