Nelson Felix: OOCO
The Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo presents a career survey of the Brazilian artist Nelson Felix. The exhibition is sponsored by Deutsche Bank.
The exhibition "OOCO (The Hollow)," on view at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, is the first retrospective of this Rio-based artist. This exhibition presents an overview of the artist’s works made between 1987 and 2014, including drawings, sculptures, installations, photographs and videos specially produced for the exhibition. Among the highlights are "Eu Vi a América com os Olhos d’Dele (I Saw America with His Eyes)," a sculpture begun in 2001 and presented here for the first time.
Nelson Felix was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1954. He studied with Ivan Serpa in early 1970 and graduated in architecture in 1977. His artistic career began in the 1980s, with drawings made from graphite and diamond. His production deals with sculpture in a broad sense and explores the relations between art, culture and nature. The pieces related to the environment are presented in the exhibition through documentary videos created from photographs taken by the artist.
