Japan staff kick off the year with a mochi pounding ceremony
Traditional Mochi (rice cakes) are a staple in Japanese cuisine and is often eaten during special occasions, particularly the New Year. Deutsche Bank staff in Japan came together to kick off 2023 with a mochi pounding ceremony. Mostly done in groups, Mochi pounding is seen as a way of strengthening bonds between family members, friends and colleagues, and is considered to bring good luck and prosperity. Participating in Mochi pounding as a team can be great way to build camaraderie, as the process requires close coordination.
The first in-person New Year’s event for Deutsche Bank Japan staff since 2020 was well-attended by employees across divisions who enjoyed the opportunity to network with each other, while working together to pound the cake.
With our 150 year legacy in Japan and the region, we look forward to embarking on another exciting year for the Bank in Japan and beyond," says Deutsche Bank's Japan Chief Country Officer Tamio Honma. "I am confident that with our collective efforts we will continue to prosper in Japan and help our clients navigate the uncertain and volatile environment.
